Message from the Ministers

Canada's New Government has delivered on its commitment to create a National Seniors Council with a mandate to provide advice on issues of national importance to Canada's seniors.

The National Seniors Council advises Canada's New Government on matters related to the health, well-being and quality of life of seniors, focusing on both the opportunities and challenges presented by a rapidly growing and aging seniors' population.

Our commitment to seniors takes on even greater significance when we consider Canada's rapidly aging population. By 2031, the number of seniors will have doubled to almost nine million, representing approximately one quarter of the country's population.

Seniors built this country and made it what it is today. The creation of the National Seniors Council enables older Canadians to have a say in the issues that matter to them.

We look forward to hearing from the National Seniors Council as it moves forward with its work plan during its first year. This promises to be an exciting and meaningful new phase of our Government's efforts to contribute to the well-being of seniors today and tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Diane Finley
Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development

Leona Aglukkaq
Minister of Health

Marjory LeBreton
