Message from the Chair

It is an honour to serve as the Chair of the National Seniors Council (NSC). Since its inception in 2007, this council has been a valuable voice in the national discussion on seniors’ issues.

The NSC was established to advise the Government of Canada on all matters related to the well-being and quality of life of seniors. To fulfill this mandate, the Council has carried out a range of activities such as roundtables with stakeholders to examine issues of importance to seniors. The Council’s current priorities are positive and active aging, and volunteering among seniors. Its previous priorities, elder abuse and low-income among seniors, led it to provide advice to the federal government on these issues through detailed reports.

It is a great pleasure to work with Minister Ablonczy, Minister Finley and Minister Aglukkaq on seniors’ issues.

I invite you to learn more about our activities by exploring our Web site. The Council is interested in hearing from you. Please send us your views on seniors’ issues, as well as your suggestions on how to best engage with seniors and seniors’ organizations.

My participation on this council has been a rewarding experience, as our activities have allowed me to meet stakeholders across the country for in-depth discussions of seniors’ issues. I look forward to continuing to serve Canada’s seniors.

Sincerely,

Jean-Guy Soulière
Chair, National Seniors Council
